Potential AI Journalism

It’s a common fact that technology has been getting more and more advanced with every year, and it’s not hard to imagine a world where artificial intelligence is responsible for almost anything, even journalism. But think about it, this may also have an effect on the world as well, and how the readers with different opinions react. Why would this be newsworthy? Apparently this kind of situation has different sides, on the positive side, the news could be presented briefly for those who want to read in small details, or go in-depth for readers who like digging into details. Even though I am very sure whether or not the general public would be ready for a news website that is driven by robot technology, I do know it will have a huge impact on human journalism, and it could change democracy by removing the benefit of well-informed citizens who disagree with one argument and agree with another argument. If it’s true what they say about us moving forward into a future where artificial intelligence rules journalism and the news, the one thing I’m sure of is that we shouldn’t be losing grip of our opinions and what we truly believe in our hearts, even if the world we know is changing.

The Douglas High School Shooting

Last Wednesday, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School faced a tragic event in which 17 people were gunned down on school grounds. So why is this newsworthy? It’s more than newsworthy, it’s important. This is demanding tighter school security in the face of the terrifying reality of gun violence. People like us have come together to pay tributes to those who have lost their lives or suffered greatly in the event, and we gain an understanding as to why we need to protect our school and its students. Because of this, we are being encouraged to make sure our schools are safer and more secure, and to also make sure that we are defending ourselves against gun safety. In a way, this has reminded me of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012. For me, I believe we can learn something from an event like this and we can hopefully build a better world, to keep the children of the future alive. There are many things we can do in the event of a shooting. We can hide, turn off all the lights in the room, and pretend no one is there. We can create elaborate technology to distract the enemy. We can find many different ways to defend ourselves, but we also need to be aware of suspicious actions. It’s simple as that: If we see something, we need to say something. Not just reporting to an adult, but making a change.

Trump’s Military Parades

America has had a tradition of cheering military parades, but this one is already setting itself apart from the others. Awe-struck by the annual Bastille Day parade in France, President Trump is making a declaration that future military parades in the time of his presidency will be focusing on their power and patriotism, to make a connection with his “Making America Great Again” theme. But why is this newsworthy? Like I said, this is a drastic change for the traditional military parades in America, but we should keep in mind that a military parade should focus on the American citizens, and the veterans and survivors of a war as well. Some soldiers in the army are just excited to see their families again, and I just think that it just doesn’t make sense to focus on the soldiers’ strength and power, when all they want to do is return home with a smile towards their friends and family. Military parades should be inspiring and full of heart, a love letter to the American people, and the survivors, but Trump’s presidency is already shaking up American traditions as we know it, and I am very uncertain of how Trump may change other American traditions.

The Dark Side of Immigration

On January 30th, President Donald Trump delivered his first State of the Union address, and addressed many events in the United States, one of them focusing on the turbulence of immigration. To flesh out the topic, Trump shined a spotlight on two paired parents and their two respective daughters being murdered by a gang that was started by Central American immigrants. So, why would this be newsworthy? First things first, immigration in this country has its pros and cons. The positive side is where people from other countries to start a new life, and the negative side is where people from outer countries can start up gangs and disrupt the system. This was a topic that touched my heart, understanding the troubles that these parents had to witness, coping with their children being murdered. There are many murders in America like this one, like the shooting in Orlando or Las Vegas, or the assassinations of black people that sparked the Black Lives Matter movement. I love the idea of immigration, and I respect anyone who longs to live in America, but we keep in mind that not everything can always be positive, and not have a negative side or a dark side. As someone who is against murder and uncalled-for violence, I’m delightful to know that President Trump is actually doing a benefit for the American people, and to ensure that this country can be safe and that no one should needlessly murdered.

Trump’s Immigration Plan

President Trump and the White House has recently made a plan to offer citizenship to immigrants, as long as there is funding to build the Mexican border wall, and this announcement has outraged many people. But why is this considered newsworthy? President Trump still has his eyes on building the Mexican border wall to prevent so-called criminals from crossing over to the US grounds, but there was not much said about the immigrants who desire to move to the US and start a new life, especially those from Mexico. In response to his idea, Democratic leader and Senator Chuck Schumer wrote his opinion on Twitter, explaining that “while [Trump] finally acknowledged that the Dreamers should be allowed to stay here and become citizens, he uses them as a tool to tear apart our legal immigration system and adopt the wish list that anti-immigration hardliners have advocated…for years.” I personally believe that immigrants deserve better respect than this and that they have a right to live in this country along with other Americans. I know Trump wants to keep our country safe, but there’s so much we need to hear from those outside of our country. We should be listen to their stories and how much they long to be American citizens.

H&M’s ‘Coolest Monkey in the Jungle’ Hoodie

At the beginning of 2018, H&M released a collection of jungle-themed hoodies for kids, with one of them having the phrase “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle” and a black kid being used as its model. This sparked outraged on social media, stating that H&M was being racist towards black people. Not only that, but it caused customers to ravage and destroy local stores in South Africa, causing them to close for good. So why is this newsworthy? There’s nothing new about racist advertising and marketing campaigns, we seen many advertisements and commercials putting black people in a negative light. Now, it’s understandable why people on social media felt very insulted. Ethnic slurs like the word “monkey” have been used throughout history to dehumanize black people, and it’s no surprise that some people out there in the world are still using it. In my opinion, I truly believe that this is disrespectful towards black people and can cause them to feel ashamed of their race. H&M should learn from their mistakes and be aware of the material they’re producing and selling before putting it out there. Maybe they should’ve replaced the phrase “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle” with “Coolest King in the Jungle”, it would’ve make people of color feel good about themselves and wouldn’t hurt anyone’s feelings.

Melanie Martinez Rape Allegations

Earlier this week, pop singer Melanie Martinez was recently accused of raping her best friend Timothy Heller. After Heller releases her emotionally detailed statement on the situation, Martinez went to social media website Twitter to release a statement saying that she was saddened by what Heller had said about her, and also said “she never no” to whatever they were doing. When she said that she was “sending her love and light” to Heller, the fans who supported Heller had threatened to stop supporting Martinez. But why is this newsworthy? It proves even women can rape other women and it doesn’t matter if someone rapes a person of the same sex or opposite sex. It really opens my eyes to all the possibilities of sexual harassment and unwanted rape. After hearing about what happened, I felt like Heller was telling the truth about her story and Martinez was trying to persuade her fans that they have such a strong, permissive bond, but I didn’t feel like either sides were trustworthy at that time. Maybe, I’d agree with Heller and come to admit that Martinez actually did try to rape her. But, at this point, I actually learned something new about rape, and that we shouldn’t try to grope a loyal friend or have sex with them just because they would “never say no.”

Children of Divorce

What does it truly feel like to witness a divorce? Imagine yourself as a kid as young as three or five years old, when you hear the sound of the parents having a conversation, when one of them suddenly declares a divorce, something that you don’t understand yet.
You see rows of bags all packed up by the door as one of your parents walks out without saying a word. As they leave you behind, you start to feel anxious and emotional and you think to yourself, “Do mom and dad still love me?”
A recent study by British parenting website Netmums reveals that many divorcing parents are in denial when it comes to how their children would react. Only a few children were happy about their parents living apart, and many of the children said their parents didn’t show them enough love. While 13% of the children who were surveyed blamed themselves, 5% percent of the parents did.
From the perspective of the mother, it is important for remind the child of all the good memories they shared. “If a child sees her mom is upset when it’s time for her to leave, she won’t be able to have a good time with her father,” says Professor Edward Teyber, Ph.D.,
From the perspective of the father, it can be hard to confront their ex or children after a divorce. According to David Knox, Ph.D., “Some dads complain that they just can’t handle the conflict when seeing their former spouse or a dad arrives to a clearly anxious child and assumes his ex has been bad-mouthing him.”
Teyber says that even adults make mistakes, and they hurt the people they love while doing so. “Canceling at the last minute — even when he knows that the visit means so much to you — is wrong. But it doesn’t mean you’re not loved.”
In reality, both the mother and father can still be in touch with their children, even after they split up. When it comes to divorce, children need a lot of love during these moments, and their parents should give them reassurance and hope.
“Expressing themselves gives kids a sense of empowerment and can help ease their frustration,” says Therapist M. Gary Neuman. “Even if nothing changes, your child will feel better knowing he made an effort to remedy the situation.”

The Libya Slave Trade

They say that slavery in illegal in most parts of the world, but in Libya, the slave market is alive and well. Millions of Africans have been trapped, enslaved and some of the being auctioned off. So why is this newsworthy? This is a serious issue in the world that the media has been focused on for a while, with many celebrities taking to social media to voice their opinions on this atrocious act of cruelty. The migrants in captivity were forced to perform labor and have been seriously tortured by their masters. Even worse, many Libya natives barely survive a dangerous journey across the Mediterranean Sea, and more than 3,000 people have drowned trying. Now, in my opinion, I truly believe that slavery is wrong, because we have to care about what people are going through and how they should be treated, and it’s the sad truth that slavery still exists somewhere on this planet. All human beings should be treated like human beings, regardless of the color of their skin or where they came from, and this is something that we need a shed a light on to make sure that we truly care about the people who desperately need our help in a dark world.

Donald Trump’s Sexual Harassment Stories in the #MeToo Era

Among the dozens of women who bravely exposed the men who sexually harassed them, there have also been women who shared their stories of being sexually harassed by Donald Trump. Two of them included People magazine editor Natasha Stoynoff and businesswoman Jessica Leeds. Why is this newsworthy? There’s so much more to the ever-growing exposure of powerful men in the business world, and this also includes our current president Donald Trump. We already heard about him being judgmental and verbally abusive on women, so when he officially became president, I feared for the women and girls of the country and how a new generation of children will grow up under his power. I always knew that he was trouble, and I know that something has to be done about him being an American president. He’s not a good role model for Americans, and he’s not a good role model for both sons and daughters alike. On the other hand, it does delight me to see more and more women being honest about their stories and coming forward about the sexual abuse that made me uncomfortable to begin with. I see this as a bright light in a time of darkness in America, and proof that there is still hope for the women and daughters of our country.
